THE BLACKFAST PROCESS

Processing entails degreasing, conditioning or pickling if hardened steel, before immersing components in a blacking bath at room temperature. Corrosion protection is afforded by a final immersion in dewatering oil.

The process equipment required is a simple arrangement of polythene tanks and water rinses and does not require expensive extraction equipment. The process has been designed to be easily incorporated within most tooling and machinery manufacturing production lines.

STEP 1

Blackfast 716 light alkaline degreaser
Dilution: 1part solution : 1 part water
Op. Temp: >15ºC
Immerse for 20 minutes

STEP 2

Water rinse
Immerse for 30 seconds

STEP 3

Blackfast 551 conditioner
Dilution: 1 part solution : 9 parts water
Op. Temp: >15ºC
Immerse for 1-2 minutes
(Keep clean and topped up)

STEP 4

Water rinse
Immerse for 30 seconds

STEP 5

Blackfast 181 chemical blacking
Dilution: 1 part solution : 3 parts water
Op. Temp: >15ºC
Immerse for 1 minute

STEP 6

Water rinse
Immerse for 30 seconds

STEP 7

Blackfast 833 or 925 dewatering oil
Immerse for 10 minutes

STEP 8

Allow to drain and dry
